I think both programs are amazing and Jon Loving's soundsets for Sibelius are terrific (Symphobia, Kontakt 4, LA Scoring Strings, Miroslav Philharmonik, EWQLSO). In Sibelius you can do this also but it's a little clumbsier. In the wake of a series of recent press releases regarding corporate restructuring and other news for both Avid (Sibelius) and MakeMusic (Finale), Avid has just announced a 25 discount for upgrading to Sibelius 7, while MakeMusic is offering a cross-grade to Finale from Sibelius for 139. I like the look of Sibelius and changing rhythmic lengths is a wee bit faster but I do find myself sometimes up against a wall and fine that Finale is able to do anything I throw at it. When you throw in the fact the Sibelius offers a properly bound complete instruction book and duplicate html reference book within the software it’s hard to beat. Rather than continue any miscommunication, I have removed the inaccurate post. In today’s blog I incorrectly stated that Sibelius can’t create two different staff size within a document, and it turns out I was wrong. I predominantly use Finale 2011 and Sibelius 6.2 for most composing chores these days. Clearly I know Finale better than I know Sibelius.
